Leo Roselli Tourney 2011 A Resounding Success

Mount Holly, NJ - 82 degrees. Winds NW 5 to 10 miles per hour. Sunny with a only a few passing clouds. What more could you ask for? How about a golf course and a cause?

The Leo P. Roselli Power Slice Tourney 2011 celebrated it's third annual installment. With several hundred on hand, including players, volunteers, friends, family and supporters, the tourney rivaled the previous year's success.

What started three years ago as a small group of friends and family has blossomed into an annual outing held at the Burlington Country Club that that raises money to award local scholarships to qualifying high school students who demonstrate need.

After a morning registration, a buffet luncheon was prepared to fuel the players and supporters for a full eighteen holes on the club's beautiful course. Capping off a wonderful day on the links was a wonderful cocktail hour and dinner followed by a prize and awards ceremony.

On hand was none other than New Jersey 101.5's Dennis Malloy to assist Laura Roselli, Reds Grayson, and Ken Dunek as Master of Ceremonies.  Various awards for performance (or lack thereof) were given, including the dubious accolade of "Worst Golfer". And of course an award for hitting or coming the closest to a school bus. (No! not a real one - to read on more about the school bus story, click here for Red Grayson's column in Tourney Tales.)

Prizes were also given for drawn tickets and a raffle that alone raised  $1300 toward the fund. Among the other spoils were Phillies tickets, pro shop gift certificates, tee times, and of course - the coveted coach bag.

Putt Poker has also become a player favorite. Players amass playing cards throughout the day and put together the best hand they have at day's end.

The days events are in honor of Leo Roselli, who lost his battle with cancer 2009. Leo, a revered member of the community, was widely respected for his love of life, his work ethic, his commitment to family, his loyalty to friends, and his contributions to the community. His wife Laura Roselli and their two sons, Matt and Leo, continue to maintain a great part of the Roselli tradition at L. E. Roselli's Specialty Foods, a South Jersey favorite for fine Italian cuisine, located in Medford, New Jersey.
